Historical Background:
The M76 Otter was developed in the late 1940s as a lightweight amphibious cargo vehicle for the U.S. Marine Corps. Entering service in the early 1950s, it was intended to replace the M29 Weasel. Its wide track base and dual-wheel setup provided excellent cross-country and amphibious mobility. Notably, the Otter featured handlebar steering, an unusual trait for an armored vehicle. It played a logistical and support role during operations in the Vietnam War, particularly in swampy and coastal environments.
